        Calcarea carbonica, or calcium carbonate, is also known as calcarea ostrearum. It is derived from the natural secretions of the European oyster, Ostrea edulis. This homeopathic remedy is prepared from the layer of crystals of calcium carbonate that are located in the middle layer of the oyster’s shell. Traditionally it has been used to treat symptoms of exhaustion, depression and anxiety.

 Indications and Dosing for Calcarea Carbonica


Calcarea carbonica remedies are available in tinicture, granule, powder and tablet forms. Tablets are the most common form. If taking a tablet place it under the tongue and allow it dissolve.

Toothache: Indicated for toothache that occurs, when you eat; when exposure to cold air and cold drinks makes the pain worse, especially if you are pregnant. Take 6c every 5minutes for up to 10 doses.

Teething: Calcarea carbonica is indicated for infants who have delayed teething.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS): Symptoms include lack of energy, clumsiness, cold sweats, swollen painful breasts, tiredness and a craving for sweets. Take 30c every 12 hours for up to three days, starting 24 hours before PMS symptoms are due.  


How safe is Calcarea Carbonica


 Calcarea carbonica, like other homeopathic remedies, has so little of the original substance in the tablets that it is highly unlikely to produce side effects in the usual sense. In addition, because Calcarea carbonica is given more often for constitutional treatment than for acute illnesses, it is not as likely to produce the temporary worsening of the patient's symptoms known as aggravation.
